A fine example of a textbook resolve to a very serious issue that most of the buildings in Historic New Castle suffer from today. As you can see, once roofing materials were removed and sheathing/framing was exposed, there was evidence of superficial repairs that have been done to the roof, soffit, and gutter within the past 5 years or so without resolving the actual issue. A project like this is very time consuming and comes with great liability. Something like this could get to be very expensive depending on the extent of damage and resolve. This has become a problem because not all homeowners can afford to have a project such as this one to be done and done correctly. These no longer performing “built-in” gutters are the main factor for the delapidation of these antiquated historical residences and buildings within the city. They are incorporated into what gives these structures their historical integrity and the issue needs to be resolved. In most cases many people will buy a house in New Castle under the impression that the building has a new roof and that may be true, but without actually reconstructing the way the building sheds water, the problem will continue to exist.
