Struggle with carrying a conversation?

Here’s 3 things to do…

1: Listen more than you speak.

Don’t show off what and who you know. So that means…don’t talk about yourself at all the first chance you have to speak.

Let’s say someone shares, “I’m thinking about starting a business.”

Don’t respond with, “Oh a business? I just sold mine. Got my MBA in finance. I was texting Mark Cuban last night. I mean, you know Mark, right?”

Instead say, “A business? That sounds awesome. What are you thinking about?”

2: Don’t outshine them.

Don’t try and push someone out of the way by sharing your similar experience.

Let’s say someone shares, “I went skydiving this past weekend.”

Don’t start with “Hmm, cool. I’ve been 3 times.”

Instead say, “That’s amazing. What was your favorite part?”

3: Don’t be distracted.

It sounds easy, but it’s not easy to do.

Don’t look around the room for the next person to talk to or glance down at your phone.

Show you’re truly interested in what they have to say.

And that’s how to carry a conversation.
