MEET LEXIE!

Have you ever seen a sweeter face than Lexie's? Bonus: she's just as sweet as she looks.
GC Lexie didn't exactly burn up the track during her five-race career. She was more the type to want to stop and smell the roses.
And so the decision was made to focus on her true calling: being someone's companion.
60-pound Lexie was born on March 20, 2024. We were told she passed the cat test conducted at the adoption center and we confirmed it with our own test. Once Lexie had a good sniff of the feline she backed away and told us, in her way, let's get outta here!
In foster care, she is gentle with the other Greyhounds and likes being around them.
Shiny black Lexie is ever-so-slightly timid when faced with new situations, but quickly adapts. During a recent walk around the neighborhood, a loud Harley motored past. To her foster dad's surprise, she was unfazed.
Lexie would do best with other Greyhounds in the house as she enjoys their company and takes her cues from them. A fenced yard is always a plus.
Do you have an open spot in your home waiting to be filled? Lexie is ready if you are!

MEET SHIMMY

Have you ever heard of a pilot known as Wrong Way Corrigan? In 1938, he took off from NY with an approved destination of California. Instead, he headed east, not west, and wound up in Ireland. He claimed to have misread his compass but most people believed Ireland was where he wanted to go all long.
We can't know for sure, but perhaps Corrigan was the inspiration for our boy Shimmy (racing name Shimizu).
During Shimmy's first schooling race he simply looked up at his trainer and stayed put as the artificial lure whizzed past.
The second attempt to get a little action out of the boy did result in Shimmy racing--but in the wrong direction!
And so marked the end of Shimmy's racing career.
This gentle brindle boy, who will turn two on May 25th, seemed always to have his sights set on being some lucky person's loving companion. He cozies up to Leroy, the foster family's resident Greyhound, and he passed two cat tests!
More bonus points: he is great riding in the car and has never even attempted to lift his leg in the house.
The only race Shimmy wants to run is into your heart and home. Get your application in now!

MORE FANTASTIC GREYHOUNDS!

Four fleet-footed beauties graced us with their presence yesterday.
The two on the left, siblings Frasier and Flo, were met by their lucky adoptive family, the Minnicks.
Also present were the Pinkhams, holding their foster boy Shimizu; and Heidi, co-pilot with Tim on the trip, holding another foster dog, Lexie.
Both Shimizu and Lexie had one cat test at the track's adoption center and both passed. We'll be doing a second test soon and will keep you posted.
Not shown: Pilot Tim; Dawn; Charles; and foster parents the Garritys.

HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN SOMEONE?
from Cynthia Branigan

It's been a few weeks since we last posted Obi so I thought it was time for a refresh on this sweet boy.
We've had inquiries about him, but, astonishingly, both people had cats. Let me state it again, Obi would not be a good fit with either cats or small dogs.
Now that that's out of the way, here are his basic stats: Obi (racing name Getso's Osteg) is a smallish 66-pound boy who is 2 1/2 years old. He raced only 5 times but showed little aptitude for it, so the decision was made to retire him.
Initially he was reluctant to go on walks but now Obi is much more relaxed and confident. That's just what a patient and skilled foster parent can do for a dog--show him the ropes. He's a good student, too!
Here are some updates from his foster mom: "Obi does well most days, enjoys seeing other people in the neighborhood while on our walks and playing with the dinosaur toy. Sleeps well, no more crate bed destruction. He’s a very sweet, happy, polite boy."
She added more insight on his personality: "Obi definitely prefers when i’m around and in the same room with him. If someone in his new family would be around most of the time, I think he would like that very much."
I'll add that I think he'd love a canine companion his own size, both as company and to take the lead. He's great riding in the car, and he's housebroken.
So what's stopping you? I know Obi's forever home is out there! Let's talk and make it happen.
