Postmenopausal bleeding is never something to wait and see about. 🌸

Any bleeding that occurs 12 or more months after your final period needs to be evaluated. FULL STOP.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists just updated its guidance on exactly this... and the change is significant.

Previously, an ultrasound alone was often used as the first step. The new recommendation calls for both transvaginal ultrasound and endometrial tissue sampling together as part of the initial evaluation for most patients.

Why the change?

Because relying on ultrasound alone may miss 5 to 12% of cancers at initial presentation. And with endometrial cancer rates rising steadily for decades, that is not an acceptable risk.

Approximately 90% of patients diagnosed with endometrial cancer have postmenopausal bleeding. Catching it early changes everything.

This update also specifically addresses Black women, who face disproportionately higher rates of aggressive endometrial cancers that may not show up on ultrasound at all.
