How old is your headset? As is the case with most technology, headsets can become outdated very quickly. If your still using the same headset you had when in flight school, consider buying a brand-new model.

There are several elements to a good flight bag: multiple compartments for the most important accessories, cushioning to protect fragile electronics, and a durable and water-resistant outer lining.

It is a good idea to keep a backup hand-held radio in your flight bag so that you can continue communicating should the avionics/radios in your plane go out while on a flight.

Periodically turn all rotating avionics switches through the full range of travel. This wipes oxidation off the contacts on the wafer-type switches for improved performance.
