🤔Security Terms Made Simple🤔

1. CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design):

âś… Fancy words for a simple idea: design spaces to make crime less likely.
Good lighting, trimmed bushes, clear walkways = safer spaces.

2. Situational Awareness:

✅ Paying attention to what’s happening around you.
Notice exits, people’s behavior, and potential risks, before something happens.

3. Protection in Depth:

âś… Think of it like layers of an onion.
Instead of relying on just one security measure, you stack them: cameras + access control + guards = stronger defense.

4. Sight Lines (or “Line of Sight”):

âś… The ability to clearly see across an area without blind spots.
Good sight lines = fewer hiding places for criminals.

5. Target Hardening:

âś… Making it harder for a criminal to succeed.
Examples: reinforced doors, stronger locks, shatterproof windows, security personnel.

6. Stand-off Distance:

âś… Simply, the safe space between a potential threat and the target.
Bollards in front of a building or barriers at an event keep vehicles from getting too close.

7. Dynamic Incident:

âś… A fast-moving, unpredictable event like an active shooter or ongoing attack.
It changes quickly and requires flexible, immediate responses.

8. Static Incident:

âś… A fixed or contained situation, like a suspicious package or barricaded suspect.
The scene is controlled, and responders can focus on managing it without things moving around constantly.
