Zakiyah is the mother of 8 children and grandparent of 5. Zakiyah has dedicated 25 years of her life to the fight for educational justice and ending the oppression of Black and brown people.

We talk about the Bloomberg origin of and road to end “Mayoral Control” of NYC Schools, Zakiyah as a founding member of the Revival Chorus and her history organizing in New York.

We’re joined by candidates Diana Moreno and Rana Abdelhamid. Both are vying for Zohran Mamdani’s assembly seat to represent parts of Queens NYC in Albany. More importantly, they’re vying to lead a community targeted by ICE and join us to discuss what New York can learn from Minneapolis and others confronting ICE and their illegal attacks on our communities, and what the nation could learn from Queens.

We also touch on how each will pick up Zohran’s torch on the Not On Our Dime campaign, an effort to pass law to restrict New York’s non profits from being subsidized to fund violent and illegal Israeli settler attacks in the West Bank.
