“We tried to foster just one. We really did. But within 20 minutes of bringing Milo home, he had dug under the back gate trying to get back to the car.”
Milo and Jax are young Jack Russell Terriers with tiny athletic bodies, sharp curious eyes, and nonstop energy that always searched for each other first. People think Jack Russells are wild little dogs that only care about digging, barking, and causing chaos.
But these two? They are pure love wrapped in fearless hearts.
They came from a heartbreaking neglect situation where they spent nearly six years living side by side in a cramped outdoor kennel. They had never known life apart. Not for a single day. Not for a vet visit. Not for feeding time. Never.
When the rescue asked me to foster Milo, they told me another foster family had already taken Jax.
“It’s for the best,” they said softly. “They need to learn independence.”
But Milo didn’t want independence.
The second I brought him home, panic took over. He ran in tight frantic circles, nails clicking across the floor, whining nonstop. When I tried putting him in a separate room so he could settle, he scratched and pawed until he found any small gap to squeeze through.
He wasn’t being difficult.
He was heartbroken.
I called the rescue coordinator crying.
“He’s not okay,” I whispered. “I think he’s completely shutting down.”
There was silence for a moment.
Then she sighed.
“Jax’s foster just called too. He’s been crying and pacing nonstop for hours. The neighbors thought something was wrong.”
So at 11 PM, I got back in my car and drove across town.
The moment Jax walked through my front gate, Milo froze.
Then came the rapid tail wags. The excited spins. The frantic happy cries.
And then almost instantly, they curled up together in a blanket pile, pressed tightly against each other, and fell asleep like they finally felt safe again.
I failed as a foster parent that night.
I adopted them both the very next morning.
Now my house is full of tiny rockets who think furniture is for jumping and walls are optional. And I haven’t had a quiet moment in months.
But my heart?
My heart has never felt so full.
Some souls were never meant to be separated. ❤️🐾
