Feisty Flamingo 50K / 100K Ultramarathon Update!

1. Official Race Date: Sunday, April 27, 2025
Location: Baisley Pond Park, Queens, NY

2. Start Time: 7am (both distances)

3. Time Limit: 12 hours - 7pm (50K) / 15 hours - 10pm (100K)

4. Logistics: 2.1 mile paved loop, fast and flat, entire course is lit up by lamps after dark (no headlamp required)

5. Early Bird Prices (first two weeks): $90 - 50K / $110 - 100K

6. UltraSignup Reg Opening: Monday, January 20, 2025

7. Drinkware Add-On: Glass Beer Mug

8. Photos: Included…it’s basically a giant loop that passes by all the park’s main sights, including Mother Carter Garden, the WW1 Memorial, the playground, etc. A more detailed map plus exact course directions will be sent to all previous registrants by E-mail as well as spelled out in a later post.

9. Bathrooms: 3 located on the course (no porta potties)

10. Parking: 1 lot located 1/2 mile from the start line; otherwise, street parking.

But I want to give the details for the Feisty Flamingo 50K & 50M, so please see below:

Date: Sunday, April 27, 2025

Location: Baisley Pond Park, Jamaica, Queens

Logistics: 5K paved loop, basically full loop of the perimeter, followed by a smaller loop on the interior. Rinse, repeat. 10X earns 50K, 14X earns 70K bonus, 16X earns 50M, 20X earns 100K. If you did the math, yes, the loop will be slightly beyond 3.1 miles to make sure everyone hits the correct distance and to account for tangents.

Time Limit: 13 hours, with ability to run the clock and get in as many miles as possible. Whoever logs the most miles gets an extremely nice trophy.

Start / End Time: 7am to 8pm

Registration Opens: October 1, 2024 - all previous participants will be E-mailed. Anyone eligible for a rollover will receive a discount code for 100% equivalent to their previously signed up distance.

Frozen Flamingo was widely beloved by all. Fiery Flamingo did not get quite the same reception, in large part due to the very complicated course which proved extremely difficult to mark. For those who fell short that day, or found themselves frustrated by getting lost and/or not running the course correctly, I encourage you to give us another shot as we’ll have this course pitch perfect and there is zero chance of runners making errors. We all learn together. 🙏🏻

SPECIAL! To those who register on Week 1, you’ll be rewarded with the lowest price of the season. Just $70 to register for 50K/70K and $90 to register for 50M/100K. After Week 1, price increases will begin up to a max of $125 for 50K/70K and $160 for 50M/100K on the month before race day. If you sign up early, and cannot make the April race, no worries, you’ll have until 4/20/25 to request a deferral to the October event.

It is going to be cloudy and in the high 60’s and mid 70’s with a 30-40% chance of rain. Dress accordingly. Never a bad idea to pack an umbrella and light jacket. No lightning or thunder concerns and the race goes rain or shine.
