More often than not, people confuse things that are old with the notion that they are also valuable and should be preserved. While there are museums for almost anything you can think about, most of the time, museum’s don’t want an item that you found that has no information attached to it. It takes a lot of resources for a museum to intake an option - whether a donation or if they purchase it. Collections staff have to make room for the object, catalog it, and are responsible for storing it forever, basically. This isn’t me saying don’t try! There are lots of objects that should be in museums - and that museums also want!

On this day March 18th, 1990, 13 works of art were stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardern Museum. Here are my theories! 🥸
