Good morning, Queens College! Happy New Year!

I am the Assistant Principal of a fabulously growing small high school in the South Bronx. While small, we are mighty in the ambitious academic programs we facilitate for our over-age and under-credited students. Currently, we are implementing a Future Ready Health Career Program and a Bilingual Special Education Program, to expand on the opportunities our students can benefit from. Because we have doubled in student population, we need your help in promoting hiring opportunities through your college academic programs.

We are currently hiring for:
An ENL/TESOL Teacher
A Science Teacher (Bilingual Spanish preferred and support for Bilingual Extension Certification can be offered)
A Spanish/World Language Teacher
A Special Education Teacher (Bilingual Spanish preferred and support for Bilingual Extension Certification can be offered)
Other non teaching positions: school aides, paraprofessionals, and computer tech positions are open

Arturo A. Schomburg Satellite Academy Bronx is an Alternative Transfer High School that is currently expanding its program offerings to include Future Ready - Health Career programs and a Bilingual Special Education program. Due to this expansion, we are looking for new community members and currently have openings for Special Education, ESL Teacher, & Science teachers (Bilingual extension in Spanish is a plus): If you are open to working on the bilingual extension in Spanish we can help with it. A little more about the Special Education position:
We primarily have ICT classes in our school due to the fact that we believe a teacher's ability to consistently plan with a partner teacher and work with the same group of students for an extended period of time leads to higher academic achievements for students. This is also the least restrictive environment to ensure that our Sped students flourish.
We had a team of 4-5 Special education teachers and are now expanding to a team of 6-7. We meet one to two times a week as a team.
Special Education teachers at our school are expected to support 3 classes and will have a caseload of approximately 15-20 IEP's a year.

A little more about the Science position:
We have a Science department made up of a Biology and Chemistry teacher. We are looking for a third member in any Science license area who is open to teaching the various types of science.
We have a Science coach that will be working with members of the department approximately one day a week in person and virtual check-ins.
Our acceptance into the FRNYC Pre-Nursing programs has expanded the need to have more science offerings especially in the area of Anatomy and Physiology. The department meets 1-2 times a week.
A candidate with a Bilingual Spanish extension is a plus! If you are Spanish speaking, the school can work with you to obtain the extension.

A little more about the ENL position:
We have an ENL department made up of two teachers, our professional developer, and AP. We are looking for a candidate that wants to be a part of a community that values the voices of our students, their families, and other staff members as we help students to develop their English language acquisition skills.
Our ENL teachers usually push -in to courses where there is a high number of ENL students and have time to co-plan with partnering teachers. Members of the department also meet with each other approximately one day a week in person.
A little more about the Spanish Teacher:
Students in the BSE program must receive home language support in Spanish which will be one of the three courses you teach. The other two courses will be Spanish instruction to satisfy foreign language graduation requirements.
An ideal candidate will be motivated and excited to pioneer our qualification for awarding our first Seal of Biliteracy.
Interview Details:
Bring a sample lesson plan in your licensed area that is a 60-minutes time period. It should connect to the 20-minute demo.
Be ready to conduct a 20-minute demo lesson based on your plan, emphasizing student writing, editing, and group work activities.
The demo lesson should include a short activity, assessments, and a concise wrap-up.
Provide a copy of your portfolio if available.
A Little About Our School:
Arturo A. Schomburg Satellite Academy is a transfer high school located at 1010 Rev. James Polite Avenue, Bronx, NY 10459. We are a NYS Performance Based Assessment Task (PBAT) school, also known as a Consortium School. To learn more about Consortium schools, you can visit http://performanceassessment.org/.
Our school operates on a trimester system, where all academic core classes are 60 minutes long, with an additional 45-minute extension lab four days a week. Teachers teach three out of five periods a day.
We are a PROSE school, offering teachers opportunities to create project-based curriculum through extensive planning.
We provide numerous professional development opportunities, mentorship and peer coaching.
We foster a small, highly collaborative community with strong structures in place.

This interactive town hall aims to share critical information about protections for immigrant-origin students and their families in response to changes under the new administration and gather insights from different regions regarding their needs, responses, and challenges in supporting these communities.
Panelists will provide information on the following topics to prepare bilingual educators to protect immigrant students and families:

🔹 School preparedness and responses
🔹 Advocacy efforts at the state and local levels
The educators, school and district leaders, advocates, and community leaders who attend will exchange ideas, share regional efforts, discuss challenges and successes in supporting immigrant students and families, and explore actionable steps that schools can take to support, protect, and empower immigrant students and their families in the face of increasing uncertainty.
