Protecting Land for Water Quality: Strategies for State Nonpoint Source Management Programs (2025) 07/14/2026

Ever wondered how land protection plays a key role in safeguarding and restoring water quality?

OSI's Hallie Schwab joined experts from the Land Trust Alliance, Northwest Arkansas Land Trust, Ducks Unlimited, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently to discuss how strategic land conservation safeguards water, strengthens communities, and reduces nonpoint source pollution—which comes from sources such as road runoff, farms, and development.

Hallie shared insights from a recent OSI report on how land trusts and others can use conservation for more effective water quality improvement efforts. Read OSI’s full report here:

As America approaches our 250th anniversary, OSI is celebrating some of the landscapes where the Revolutionary War unfolded—and the importance of protecting these places for generations to come.

From the Saratoga Battlegrounds in New York, where a pivotal victory changed the course of the conflict, to the Hudson Highlands, where Benedict Arnold's betrayal unfolded, and the swamps of South Carolina's Lowcountry, where General Francis Marion led some of his legendary campaigns, OSI has helped conserve places where history and nature are inseparably linked.

These landscapes tell the story of America's founding while providing habitat for wildlife, opportunities for outdoor recreation, and meaningful connections to our shared past.
