UNICEF and partners are working under extraordinary conditions to reach 650,000 school-aged children in the Gaza strip to ensure they receive the support they need to survive, learn and heal.

Cecilia, 16, and Hannah, 14, have their hearts set on becoming surgeons. Sandra, 16, is planning on a career as a lawyer, to promote justice. Wallinane, 14, wants to be "a judge who is not corrupt."

These are some of the girls from Chipoka Secondary School in the Salima district in central Malawi who will help shape Malawi's future. And with support from the K.I.N.D. (Kids In Need of Desks) Fund, launched back in 2010 by MS NOW's Lawrence O'Donnell and UNICEF USA, their dreams have a much better chance of coming true. To date, K.I.N.D. scholarships have helped nearly 38,000 girls in Malawi graduate from high school.

Across Guatemala, UNICEF works with local partners to teach parents how simple acts of affection, like talking, hugging and playing, can transform a child’s future.

Every smile, every touch, every warm word helps shape a child's brain for life. This blend of affection, play and emotional connection lays the foundation for optimal Early Childhood Education.

Thanks to UNICEF, a total of 276 new Comprehensive Child Development Community Centers (CECODIIs) were established in the departments of Alta Verapaz and Chiquimula in 2024 alone, benefitting nearly 20,000 families in more than 180 communities.

“My first day at school was amazing.” says 8-year-old Youssef from Syria. Youssef began school last year and is now able to read and participate alongside his classmates with the help of his Braille machine.

Last year, UNICEF supported over 9,000 students like Youssef across Syria through inclusive education programs. The lack of continuous access to education for children in Syria remains a crisis within the crisis. At least 2.4 million children are out of school, and over one million children, especially those with disabilities, are at risk of dropping out, due to insecurity and lack of resources.
