Incredibly proud to announce that IMPACT's own Lamarana Diallo has been recognized as CUNY'S Scholar-Athlete of the Year 2020!

Lamarana began in our program as a mentee, and got so much from his experience, he applied to be a mentor to give back to others. He has been an influential mentor for 3 semester, and joined the IMPACT Leadership Team last semester as a Super Peer, assisting with the training, support and supervision new and returning mentors. During his time at BMCC, Lamarana was an very engaged student leader, giving his time, energy, wisdom, and enthusiasm to up and coming students. Whether in IMPACT, on the soccer field, in student government, or with his fellow students in class, he was always mentoringand helping those around him to become their best selves and reach for success. As an scholar- athlete and student leader, Lamarana consistently worked hard to be a worthy role model others can look up to.

He is most deserving of this honor and all the recognition! Congratulations!

to Jose Fabrizzio Cevallos, WINNER of the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke national scholarship!

We are so proud of you and celebrate all your hard work and your commitment to academic excellence, service and leadership. Fabrizzio is amazing role model as an IMPACT mentor!

Cooke Transfer Scholars are selected based on their exceptional academic ability and achievement, financial need, persistence, service to others, and leadership. Students must be currently enrolled community college students or recent graduates residing in the United States. Selected scholars will receive financial support for up to three years ($40,000!), comprehensive educational advising, and the chance to connect with fellow Cooke Scholars.

Through this award, the Foundation supports high-achieving community college students as they transfer to some of the best four-year institutions in the country to complete their bachelor’s degrees.

This year’s 461 semifinalists were chosen from a pool of nearly 1,500 applicants attending 311 community colleges in 45 states and the District of Columbia. BMCC was honored to have 11 of them; 4 from our program we were thrilled in January when The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation announced that IMPACT's own Schidza Cime Abubakar Yusef, Fabrizzio Cevallos and Abdoul Hanane were named as national semifinalists. All were so deserving of the honor!

We celebrate the accomplishments of all our amazing, brilliant nominees, especially Fabrizzio. Fabrizzio began as a mentee, then became a mentor and award-winning national scholar. This is the 3rd winner in 5 years for BMCC... and TWO if those shining stars came from the IMPACT Peer Mentoring program. Our community members really know how to make an IMPACT.
