The shade was originally created in 1971 in a gloss pot. founder Carol Phillips named it Black Honey because the texture of the gloss looked like an actual pot of honey.
Black Honey has been a celebrity staple for decades, famously worn by ā90s icons like Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore, and Kate Moss, and featured in films with Liv Tyler and Molly Ringwald.
When Clinique attempted to discontinue the Almost Lipstick collection, outrage predictably ensured: so much so, Black Honey survived the cull and is today the only shade still in production, as well as their #1 best seller!

Iām a photographer, singer, and actress living in New York City. I graduated from Baylor University with a BFA in Theatre Performance while taking digital photography courses in my spare time.
