The weakest link in a company is not always a person.

Sometimes it is a tool nobody thinks about.

Browser extensions, AI plugins, developer add-ons, file converters, and small productivity apps often spread quietly across organizations with almost no oversight.

They feel harmless because they are small.

But small tools can create large access paths.

Many companies carefully review major software purchases while allowing dozens of smaller tools to operate inside sensitive workflows without visibility.

That gap matters.

Attackers increasingly look for overlooked tools sitting close to credentials, files, browsers, and operational systems.

The companies getting ahead of this are not banning everything. They are building visibility and ownership around what is actually being used.

If your organization reviewed every “small” tool installed across teams today, what would surprise you most?

GitHub confirmed unauthorized access to internal repositories after a compromised employee device was reportedly infected through a malicious Visual Studio Code extension.

GitHub said customer data was not affected, but the bigger issue is how the access happened.

A trusted development tool became the attack path.

That matters well beyond software companies.

Modern attacks increasingly begin inside tools employees already trust to do their jobs. Browser extensions, developer plugins, AI add-ons, and productivity tools are becoming part of the attack surface whether organizations formally recognize them or not.

For business leaders, this raises an important operational question:

Do you know which tools, extensions, and third-party applications currently have access inside your environment?

Because attackers are increasingly targeting the spaces between people and systems.

Today, we don't say Happy Memorial Day.

We say THANK YOU.

To the brave.
To the fallen.
To the ones who never came home.

At Sniper Watch, we don’t take freedom lightly.
It’s earned, and protected, by heroes whose names we may never know, but whose sacrifice echoes in everything we do.

Today we honor those warriors. Not just with words, but with how we live, how we lead, and how we protect what they gave everything for 🇺🇸.

To our fallen servicemen and women: We remember. We respect. We will never forget.

God Bless!
