You know the saying "community over completion" but I like to think that a little competition is always healthy 😉
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When ever I mention the competition analysis that is part of my brand strategy people say "oh no, we are a business that promotes community over competition." or "There's no one else doing what we are doing" to which I always explain that competition is not a horrible thing, you are not going to find your competitors and declare war. Competitors are people that solve the same problem as your business, maybe they do it in a different way but sure do it to the same/similar target audience as you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You need to know what they are doing and not doing to serve their audience to make a strategy for your business that fills a unfulfilled space and to make sure your branding does resemble theirs.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In a way by knowing who your competitors are you make sure you are not competing. Because you will make your branding and offer so different, and when your business is different and show clearly to your public you take your business out of the competition and make your own.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Once you differentiate your business from the competition, you won't see them as being on the other side of the ring. You'll get to see them as business that can be part of your community.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Also remember at the end of the day, the customer makes the decision of who to give their money and support to. Your job is just to make sure they reject your business for the right reasons... but that's a topic for another day. ;)

"Stand for something or fall for anything...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here is a little exercise how to narrow down on your brand purpose and values.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
this same concept can also be used to create content. Just do "What you know & What they need to know to help them with their problem" and voila! wherever it overlaps is content ideas!

Most times "only a logo" is not the best option for online business owners.
If you are a business owner that has ever thought "I only need a logo to start" think twice. For many reasons I believe that no every business is in the place to hire a designer yet. As an emerging business you could D.I.Y. your branding. You should create a cohesive set assets for your brand identity. Â
I love working on the submark. The submark is smaller and with less details version of your logo.Â
Maybe you feel you only need one logo because you'd not know how or where to use the submark. I put together a short list of places I like to used the submark when designing.
- Instagram stories: The logo might be too big or your posting more than one image. if you're posting more than one story with your logo use the main logo on the first and after use the submark
- Business cards: if you're printing double sides cards one side can have the submark.
- Documents: On a long document use the submark the same as stories. Usethe logo at the beginning of the document or on the cover and the submark and icon on the subsequent pages.Â
This is not an exhausted list. Think wherever your logo would be too small substitute it with the submark or an icon.Â
When we work together you receive an Brand Carryall. That includes a guide on how to use each of your brand elements and how NOT to use them. (which is as important to keep a cohesive brand).
