When Layna (now Leila) appeared on a list of new intakes at Animal Care Centers of NYC at 13 years old, Beastly volunteer aksanaivaniuk ‘s heart sank. Aksana had a Chow Chow as a child and when she read that Leila was found in an apartment with her deceased owner and had been there likely at least a week without food or water, she knew she had to help. Shelters are no place for senior dogs-especially ones with medical issues.

After taking her resident dogs to meet her, Leila trotted off to the perfect retirement home with Aksana where she will now get the best food and vet care -and of course, lots of love! ❤️

A few weeks back we posted this little dude for . There was a ton of interest in 10 lb, 4-6 year old Luca, but few applications. While he did have a couple of approved applications, the potential adopters changed their minds and he never even got to go for a trial. 😢

Adoptions are super slow for the last several months; so slow that even cute, young, non-issue dogs are still sitting and waiting for their forever families. While it’s good to have committed fosters that hold onto dogs until they’re adopted, it’s also sad for the dog because the longer a pup waits, the more attached they get. 😕

We are looking for a home for Luca with another small, friendly dog because he needs a best friend! 🐶🐶 Initially fostered with another Beastly pup, Terri (who is also still looking for the perfect home), they became fast friends. He feels most comfortable with another pup or two to hang with.

Luca is fully vetted, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, housetrained and available for adoption in NY Tri-State area. He loves walks, 🐕kids, 👦🏼👧🏻humans and even kitties🐈‍⬛🐈!!

Sometimes dogs sit in foster homes for months because they have special needs, are older or need just the right family. Luca isn’t that dog. At 10lbs and a young, (but not too young) 4 -6 years old, a pretty much perfect dog sits and waits. 😞

Luca is likely a ShihTzu mixed with Poodle-both incredibly smart and sweet breeds. He loves everyone -especially other dogs and will need a home with another friendly dog. 🐶🐶

Luca is being fostered in NYC and is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered and microchipped. He does have dry eye which requires daily drops, but administering them is quick and easy.

This four year old, ten pound little lady is still in search of her forever home. Rescued from last fall, she has been in foster ever since. 🫩Terri has had a couple of meets, but because she takes some time to warm up to strangers, no one has given her a chance.

Terri recently went to a temporary foster while her foster went on vacation and settled in beautifully. She is a typical terrier-high energy, sweet and bonds very quickly with her human caretaker once settled. She loves other young dogs and even 🐈‍⬛🐈 and would be great as a member of a small pack-or even as your one and only. She is housetrained, spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccinations and ready to find her forever human! 🩵
