Everyone is talking about Bea’s Invisalign trays on Love Island, but the trays may not be the issue.

From my perspective as a prosthodontist, I’d argue that if Bea is brushing, flossing, and cleaning her aligners properly, she could actually have one of the healthiest mouths in the villa.

The bigger concern isn’t the Invisalign. It’s the communal kissing.

Every time you kiss someone, you’re exchanging bacteria, viruses, and microorganisms. While good oral hygiene helps, no aligner can protect you from what everyone else is bringing to the party.

The takeaway? Don’t blame the trays. Blame the group kissing.

Oral health when you’re pregnant is a moving target due to hormonal shifts, but staying proactive is a simple way to protect both your health and your baby 👶

Timing is Key: It is recommended that pregnant women have their teeth professionally cleaned during the second trimester and again shortly after giving birth.

Hormonal changes can trigger a cycle of inflammation, allowing opportunistic pathogens to infiltrate the gums. These bacteria and inflammatory cells can travel through your body and potentially affect your baby.

Make sure you are working closely with your hygiene team to stay on top of your cleanings and keep your body healthy for you and your little one.

How often should you really get your teeth cleaned?

The standard recommendation of two cleanings a year isn’t necessarily the right schedule for everyone. Each person builds plaque, tartar, and bacteria at a different rate—and everyone’s immune system responds differently too.

The goal isn’t to wait until inflammation appears. It’s to prevent it.

That’s why your ideal cleaning schedule should be personalized. For some patients, every 3–4 months is best. Others may do well with visits every 6 months or longer.

Talk with your dental hygiene team to determine the interval that’s right for you. And remember, what happens between appointments matters most. Daily brushing, flossing, and plaque control are key to keeping your smile healthy for life.

Dot cake is trending 🍰 but here’s my take as a dentist…

While those crunchy rainbow sprinkles may look harmless, they can be surprisingly hard on your teeth. Over time, repeatedly chewing hard foods can contribute to enamel wear and affect the tooth’s natural crystalline structure. If you have fillings or other dental restorations, that extra pressure may also increase the risk of wear or damage.

I’m not saying you can’t enjoy the trend, just enjoy it in moderation and keep your smile in mind!

Would you still try dot cake? 👀
