On the heels of Donald Trump winning the 2024 presidential election, New York City Mayor Eric Adams is ending the city’s migrant food voucher program and planning to work with Trump’s administration in 2025.
On Wednesday (November 6), former President Donald Trump was officially elected as the 47th president of the United States over Kamala Harris.

On Thursday (November 7), Mayor Adams spoke about the controversial program that distributed prepaid debit cards to migrant families staying in city-funded hotels, allowing them to buy their own foods, and more. He told ABC 7 Eyewitness News, “It was an emergency contract for a one year. Now, we have moved away from emergency response because we have had a constant decrease in our population and now we’re going to the procurement process that we do now for food. But, we’ve been successful with that program. We brought down food waste and we were able to get several thousand individuals to have culturally sensitive food, at the same. It was successful for the time being. It was an emergency and now we’re moving in another direction.”

Mayor Adams also talked about funding for the city and his plans to work with Trump. He said, “I’m here to fight on behalf of the city. You can’t hold your breath and wait 4 years before you start bringing back those resources to the city. We have a new president and I’m going to collaborate with his administration to deal with some pressing issues that we face in our city, particularly around funding. When you look at the billions of dollars that we spent with the migrants and asylum seekers, we got very little help from the federal government and I think it’s imperative that we engage on the right foot and say New York needs
infrastructure, affordability, and other big-ticket items.” Adams was then asked if the Trump presidency would have an effect on his federal case, if he’s hoping his charges would be dropped, and if he talked to Trump about his case.

Former Louisville police detective,
was found guilty of violating ’s rights by using excessive force during a fatal raid in Louisville, Kentucky, in 2020.

Hankison was the only officer charged for his actions during the raid as he fired 10 shots into her glass door and windows. Although none of the shots that Hankison fired struck Taylor, the other officers, fired the shots that eventually led to the untimely death of a 26-year-old Breonna Taylor. According to, “The conviction against Hankison carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.”

The impact of this shooting was one amongst several police killings that sparked an uproar across the country during the pandemic leading to a movement against police brutality.
