The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) has long shaped affordable housing development in the U.S., yet its role in supporting cooperative and community-controlled models is still emerging.
Join us for a conversation with practitioners, policymakers, and housing experts as we explore how LIHTC and related financing strategies can help unlock new pathways for social housing. This panel will examine how these tools can be adapted to support long-term affordability and resident control, and what it will take to bring these models to scale.
On Wednesday morning UHAB joined coalition partners, community groups, and elected officials on the steps of City Hall to rally support for the COPA!
The Community Opportunity to Purchase Act (COPA) would give tenants, nonprofits, and community land trusts the first right to buy their buildings when they go up for sale, keeping homes affordable, in the hands of the community, and rooted in resident control.
UHAB is proud to stand with the tenants and communities we work with every day to send the message that we need to tackle the root causes of the affordability crisis, by protecting peopleโs homes, stopping predatory and speculative practices that fuel displacement, and ensuring residents have decision making power over their homes and their future.

Another successful National Incubator cohort wrapped up at UHAB! โจ
Earlier this month we were joined by incubator participants from Los Angeles, Montana, Seattle, Michigan, and more. These affordable housing practitioners are not just gaining new skills, they are also sharing ideas and strengthening values of affordability, sustainability, and community empowerment. UHAB welcomed the Community Preservation Corporationโs Credit & Risk team for a walkthrough to showcase the progress of an affordable housing development project. We shared construction updates and our vision for sustainable, resident-led affordable housing. ๐
