The CDC study is highlighting the mental health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, the report shows, when compared to the same time period in 2019, ER visits for suspected su***de attempts for girls ages 12-17 rose more than 50 percent between February and March of 2021.
Dr. Jacobs, who is also the Vice President of NAMI Southern Nevada, adds that kids in our community are even more vulnerable, pointing to the Nevada Medical Center report card's ranking of Nevada as second highest in the nation for youth mental health prevalence rates. He says, even more concerning, those stats rolled in before the start of the pandemic. - Channel 3 News Las Vegas
Dance involves the culturally mediated body, emotion, and mind. So do illness and pain. Dance may promote wellness by strengthening the immune system through muscular action and physiological processes. Dance conditions an individual to moderate, eliminate, or avoid tension, chronic fatigue, and other disabling conditions that result from the effects of stress. Dance may help the healing process as a person gains a sense of control through (1) possession by the spiritual in dance, (2) mastery of movement, (3) escape or diversion from stress and pain through a change in emotion, states of consciousness, and/or physical capability, and (4) confronting stressors to work through ways of handling their effects. - sourced from National Library of Medicine

Zen Meridian is a movement practice that balances energy through stretch poses, breath work and active use of visualization, derived from various traditional exercises by Shizuto Masunaga (Japanese psychologist and shiatsu practitioner), who created Zen Shiatsu in 1970s to re-establish Traditional Chinese Medicine values into the then westernized, anatomically and physiologically based Shiatsu.
