Congratulations to DMA flutist Yoshi Weinberg on receiving a Fulbright Fellowship to Austria for the 2026-2027 academic year! Yoshi will pursue contemporary music studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz to work with members of the Klangforum Wien ensemble, and to study the compositions of Julius Eastman, a q***r Black composer.

Yoshi credits the Graduate Center’s Fulbright advising team, Rachel Sponzo (Associate Director of Student Research Fellowships), Professor Emily Wilbourne, and Prof. Anne Stone in the competitive application process.

Three Graduate Center Students Receive Fulbright Fellowships for Research and Study Abroad Vincent DeLaurentis, Sato Moughalian, and Yoshi Weinberg will travel to India, Armenia, and Austria for projects exploring labor and urban space, Armenian cultural history, and contemporary classical music.

Congratulations to GC alumna Alice Xue (Ph.D. in Music Theory, ’25) on securing a position as assistant professor of music theory and ear training at Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University!

How an Alumna Landed a Faculty Role at Johns Hopkins’ Peabody Institute Alice Xue shares how she found her scholarly passion and what helped her succeed in a challenging academic job market.

On Friday, May 22nd at 6pm, DMA mezzo-soprano Patrice P. Eaton performs with pianist Elizabeth G. Hill in Elebash Recital Hall. The program features Wolfgang A. Mozart’s “Va l’error mio palesa” from Mitridate; Ludwig van Beethoven’s “In questa tomba oscura”; Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s “Se tu m’ami, se sospiri”; Richard Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder; Jorell Williams’ “Civil Rights Songs”; Brandon Waddles’ “Great Day”; Damien Sneed’s “All Night-All Day”; and Evelyn Simpson-Curenton’s “Git on Board.”

On Friday, May 15th at 6pm, DMA pianist Elżbieta Bilicka presents a recital in Elebash Hall. The program features Aaron Copland’s “Three moods”; Robert Schumann’s Kreisleriana, Op.16; and Alexander Scriabin’s Sonata No.3 in F-sharp minor, Op.23.
