“Shar[ing] and honor[ing] the diversity, resources, and community spirit” of residents is all part of our Norwalk site’s plan to promote safety and strengthen community-police relations through the OJP Bureau of Justice Assistance Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation program.

Partnering with the Norwalk, CT Police Department and the The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, the BCJI site used grant funding to sponsor a free South Norwalk Celebrating Diversity event. “We’re bringing people together from the area that we’re looking to build,” says Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling.

The Police Foundation and Major Cities Chiefs Association has just released a report detailing opportunities for Federal-local partnerships to address this challenge. "Reducing Violent Crime in American Cities: An Opportunity to Lead" provides over 25 policy recommendations for the new administration and Congress.
