This collection is an ode to the icons who gave birth to salsa music in NYC. Cofounded by flutist Johnny Pacheco in 1964, Fania Records gave a platform to the diaspora of Afro-Carribean musicians, singers, composers, & arrangers who migrated to the US during a time of political turmoil.

The early 1970s was a political coming-of-age of Latinos across the country. Fania was the soundtrack for the empowerment for many of these comm unities, because it was brash, it was vibrant, it was new. It embraced the Afro identity of Latin America.
