Professor Tim Wu discusses his new book, “The Age of Extraction: How Tech Platforms Conquered the Economy and Threaten Our Future Prosperity,” and explains how dominant tech platforms extract wealth, paving the way for a rise in autocracy.
“I wrote a book going back to the writings of the ’90s and the early ’00s and figuring out what we were saying and maybe where we went wrong,” says Wu. “We were so optimistic about the internet, and we had this vision—it was going to make everybody rich and bring democracy everywhere, and the future was going to be grand. … [I] wanted to know what happened.”
