Understanding your symptoms is foundational in our ability to help you resolve your problem. A good assessment starts with taking a good history. At SOS PT, we take the time to listen to your story and hear your experience. This is a vital part of our initial evaluation as it helps guide our physical examination. We use a response-based assessment known as the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy. Your history, along with your movement response, is essential to determining what exercise is right for you. To learn more check out our blog!

Yes, proper form or body mechanics when you are exercising is very important. It often times minimizes the load or stress put on your joints and allows your muscles to functional properly and to the best of their ability. It makes sense to practice proper form with squatting or dead lifts or yoga. But when you consider the amount of time you spend in these positions, it is only a very small fraction of your day. What about considering proper form when sitting at work or doing dishes. What about considering proper body mechanics when picking up your children or working in your garden. We spend so much of our day doing these activities without giving a second thought to the way we move or the stress put on our joints as a result. These everyday movements and tasks often lead to musculoskeletal issues, and even small changes in the way you move can have a large impact on your musculoskeletal health.

Direction matters!

Whether its navigating the road or assessing musculoskeletal pain, the direction you are going matters. Most musculoskeletal pain feels better with movement. As we go through our assessment process we are trying to determine which movement it feels best with. Too much movement in too many directions can be confusing. Some might feel better and some feel worse. But consistent movement in one specific direction at a time often gives us the best result.
