Honors Author Highlight: Harriet Jacobs
Senior in the Honors Program, Cana Buckley, highlighted this quote from Jacobs's Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl
She reflects, “Harriet's path out of slavery brought her in contact with so many people who abused and hated her, but also many who sought to help her, even at the risk of their own safety, like Mrs. Bruce. Calling someone who is willing to love at all times even when it requires great sacrifice a friend does indeed make it a sacred title.”

Honors Author Highlight: Julian of Norwich
This quote from The Showings of Julian of Norwich was highlighted by a senior in the program, who reflects:
"Julian taught me to see the gentleness of God. Her Showings of Divine Love helped me to understand that God is our strong protector, and also our tender comforter. His steadfast love truly endures forever, and no matter the circumstances we face in life, because of his unfailing love we can live in the confidence of this promise that ‘All shall be well and all manner of things shall be well.’"

This week’s Honors Author Highlight was submitted by junior honors student, Ivette Uribe!
Ivette highlighted this quote from Epictetus’ Discourses, because “Everyone usually forgets about the authors/quotes of freshman year honors...but this quote from this book held so much weight at the time and still does. I was sitting in the Bridge Cafe reading this and realized that I was in Honors and at George Fox to become a better person; that was the whole purpose of my being here. To become better. Every and any movement after that was for the betterment of myself and if it was not, then it was not worth my time or energy.”
Thank you for sharing, Ivette!
