Unilateral leg strength is key in every sport.
So at Atlas, we prioritize single-leg dominant movements like split squats to build single leg strength.
Hereโs an example of how we may progress or regress split squat variations based on each athleteโs ability ๐
๐น Bodyweight Split Squat ISO โ builds foundational control & teaches athletes positional awareness
๐น Plate Hold Split Squat โ reinforces upper body control & core engagement
๐น DB Split Squat โ allows us to slowly increase weight & focus on single leg balance
๐น DB Rear Foot Elevated Split Squat โ increases range of motion & greater demand on the hip
๐น Barbell / Safety Bar Variations โ allows for higher loading to maximize strength once the athlete has demonstrated movement competency
