Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

It is a day of freedom, but also a reminder that liberation has never arrived all at once.

Juneteenth honors Black resilience, resistance, joy, and the generations who fought for freedom even when justice was delayed. It also calls us to keep building communities where dignity, equity, and care are not promises, but everyday practice.

At LGBT Life Center, we recognize Juneteenth as part of our ongoing commitment to racial equity, LGBTQ+ liberation, and a future where all communities can thrive.
