Tate Lewis-Carroll Poetry

All of a sudden it's week 2 of my first semester teaching 227 Introduction to Creative Writing, & I gotta say—yeah, I'm hooked.

I titled my class Introduction to Creative Writing: Notebook as Process & Material. My ultimate goal for my students is to help them develop & maintain an enthusiastic writing habit by 1 pushing them to fill an entire composition notebook by hand over the course of the semester & 2 produce a chapbooks worth of writing, which we will then organize, design, & bind by hand as their final projects. Workshops & other good stuff will be mixed in along the way. I hope by laying a foundation of excitement & routine for those students who want to continue on in their CW studies will be able to build upon this practice easily as they navigate all of the other writer's tools out there. & those who don't hopefully will be able to incorporate at least some writing, personal or otherwise, into the rest of their lives. Or at least leave this class w/ a keepsake.

Here's what I'm working with: the first slide are the texts I intend for us to read in full; the second are all the other texts I will be pulling from, in varying degrees, for activities, prompts, & further readings. (I'm open to suggestions if you have any.)

I feel so fortunate to have made it here, for this incredible opportunity to reach others as I have been reached by my wonderful teachers, educators, mentors, & writers in my past & present!
