I'm serious. This reframing helps SO much! Taking your child's sleep (newborn, baby, toddler, or preschooler) and breaking it down into buckets can make SUCH a difference.
You were never supposed to be able to dictate exactly how quickly your child falls asleep, how many hours they sleep at night, how many times they wake up, and whether or not they take "long" naps.
And let's be honest. When you create your sleep goals around these specifics, it's no wonder you feel like you're failing. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Instead focus on what you can control with your child's sleep:
✔️Routines
✔️Habits
✔️Timing of sleep
✔️ Environment
✔️Your reaction
✔️ Consistency
And the list could go on and on and on and...
You get the idea. There is SO much we *can* control as parents when it comes to our children's sleep. So let's start focusing on the right things instead of the things that set us (and our kids) up for failure.

There’s a lot of noise in the sleep training world — and not all of it’s helpful. So let me just say this: You don’t have to sleep train.
But if you’re stuck, second-guessing, and too tired to think straight…
You shouldn’t feel ashamed for wanting change. The truth is:
âś… You can be responsive AND sleep train
âś… You can sleep train AND have a securely attached baby
✅ And yes — your baby might cry. But that doesn’t make you a bad parent.
You’re not failing. You’re just in a hard moment — and you don’t have to stay there.
