CrowdStrike Update Causes Global Windows System Outages

A significant outage is impacting Windows systems globally, affecting both servers and workstations. The issue has been traced to a defective update in the drivers associated with CrowdStrike EDR solutions. This update results in the dreaded 'blue screen of death' and prevents systems from booting correctly.

To rectify this problem, the affected driver (csagent.sys or C-00000291*.sys) must be removed via Safe Mode. However, many corporate users do not possess the necessary access rights to perform this fix. Consequently, corporate administrators may need to manually intervene on a large scale to resolve the issue.

Critically, the outage has also impacted numerous critical infrastructure computers, including those in airports and airlines.
