Beyond Spoken Words: Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Children may benefit from augmentive and alternative communication (AAC) if they have communication disorders or medical diagnoses that make it difficult to be understood by their family, caregivers and peers. AAC can be used at any age, even during the infant and toddler years.
