DID YOU KNOW that worrying about aging might actually accelerate it? New research in Psychoneuroendocrinology studied more than 700 women and found that those who felt more anxious about getting older — especially those who feared future health problems — showed signs of faster biological aging in their blood.

Researchers measured this using two cutting-edge "epigenetic clocks": DunedinPACE, which tracks the speed of biological aging, and GrimAge2, which estimates accumulated biological damage over time. Anxiety about declining health showed the strongest connection of all.

It's a striking reminder that how we think and feel doesn't stay in our heads — it shows up in our cells. Mind and body really are one system.

Have you heard of caffeine pouches? They're the newest trend among young people—artificially flavored in flavors like Blue Raspberry and Fruit Punch, and marketed as a cheaper, more discreet alternative to coffee, energy drinks, and pre-workout powders. The reassuring part: unlike vapes, these don't contain ni****ne.
The concerning part: there's no federal age restriction on caffeine products. And caffeine misuse isn't harmless. It can raise heart rate and blood pressure, disrupt sleep, and cause tremors, dehydration, GI upset, and restlessness. In prepubertal kids especially, excess caffeine may actually reduce the developing brain's drive to form connections tied to memory and learning.
If there's a tween or teen in your life, this is worth a quick conversation. Awareness is the first layer of protection.

For decades, many of us absorbed the message that a glass of wine with dinner was good for the heart. A major new scientific review published in the journal Addiction takes a hard look at that assumption — and the updated picture is sobering.

Drawing on decades of research, the review now formally links alcohol to 62 distinct health conditions, up from 48 under the previous system. The list includes cancers of the mouth, throat, esophagus, colon, liver, and breast. The mechanism is well understood: when the body metabolizes alcohol, it produces acetaldehyde — a compound that directly damages DNA, drives inflammation, and disrupts hormones like estrogen. Some harms, like high blood pressure, can reverse with reduced intake; others, including cancer and dementia risk, are described as only partly reversible, if at all.

And the famous "heart benefit"? It appears those older studies were flawed — they often counted former heavy drinkers who quit due to illness as "non-drinkers," making abstainers look sicker than they were. Newer genetic-based research finds little to no protective effect, and some signs of harm. This isn't about fear or judgment — it's about making informed decisions with the best available evidence.
