Sunrise: it’s a constant reminder that there’s a chance for a new day. It’s always something that gives me hope. On this cold February day I’m reflecting on hope and how to take care of ourselves during this chaotic and scary time. As a therapist and girl mom it’s a lot to carry. What works for me are as follows:
• focusing on what I have control over.
• healthy habit tracking (pick 2-5 to focus on).
• hobbies that spark joy (cooking, Pilates, yoga, writing).
• spending time with friends.
• humor.
• reading.
• watching engrossing content.
• turning off the news and taking breaks.
• finding ways to channel my emotions- dance, writing, music, activism.
• not suppressing my emotions but channeling them into actions- calling senators, letter writing for example.
• spending time with loved ones.
• playing games with my daughter (we built a fort the other day)
• art projects.
• getting outside when I can and any sunshine I can get.
Part of this cycle is aimed to exhaust and overwhelm, check in with yourself and please take care of yourselves. Be kind to one another, this is impacting all of us differently. 💛

How to cure those winter blues 💙
✨
If you are like me and can’t plan a winter get away this year here are a few options…
✨
1. Cozy up your living space. I practice in the winter to help me feel cozy, warm and taken care of. It makes a huge difference in my mood. ☺️
✨
2. Get vitamin D, get outside as much as you can for a walk, hike, workout or just a stroll on a cute street with shops and a coffee. It’s a quick mood booster.
✨
3. A happy lamp can help too, these are created to help boost your mood, get your rhythm on track in the darker months and they cause zero sun damage.
✨
4. Dive into hobbies that bring you joy. I love to cook. During Covid we are entertaining less but I try out new recipes whenever I can even if it’s just on my husband it helps me focus on something outside of myself or current events and it’s a way I show others I care.
✨
5. Bubble baths or your self care activity of choice. I’m bubble bath obsessed right now, especially being pregnant it’s the one place I feel human plus it’s warm and free. Finding your favorite self care activity and doing it regularly helps a ton.
✨
6. Make plans- this is hard to do during Covid but it helps to have things to look forward to. My husband and I are working on our summer plans which helps me focus on sunshine and warm weather coming soon.
✨
7. Workouts that bring you joy help boost that mood too!
✨
8. Gratitude journaling regularly really helps to put everything into perspective and helps us to focus on the positives.
✨
9. Ask for help, if you can’t shake the winter blues ask for help. You are not alone!

I’m looking at you 2021, you don’t have to be the best year ever or even close you just need to be better than 2020. This year has been a lot. From Covid, fires, politics, to to families being torn apart. My job as a healer has never been harder or more rewarding. This year taught me hard lessons in self care, gratitude, boundaries, compassion and letting the bad s**t go. We are stronger and more socially conscious because of 2020 and I’m hoping for a healthier, happier, and more peaceful future. Goodbye 2020, you sure as hell won’t be missed but also not forgotten.
