Corpsmember Highlight: Andre L.

Andre has been with CCNB for a little over 2 years now, but he continues to develop and refine his professionalism, leadership skills, and overall
job-related skills. Andre has held an Assistant Crew Leader role with the Marin Zero Waste team for a little over a year now, and he has been a pivotal player in our daily operations. He has good command over the crew, effective communication, and a keen eye to detail with projects he gets assigned, all while maintaining a respectful and calm demeanor. In the past few months, Andre gained a few more certificates to bolster his already impressive resume. Those certificates specifically are Forklift Operator 50 (50 hours of safe forklift experience), Rim Remover Equipment Operator, and Baler Operator.

We are excited to see where these skills will take him in the future. Congrats, Andre.

Andre lleva poco más de dos años en CCNB, tiempo durante el cual ha seguido desarrollando y perfeccionando su profesionalismo, sus habilidades de liderazgo y sus competencias laborales en general. For the third spring in a row, NRC Sonoma has partnered with the Town of Windsor to assist their public works team in executing aggressive vegetation management throughout the town.

Corpsmembers have been working in local parks, along roadways, and near public spaces to reduce the wildfire risks to the immediate communities abutting these vegetation zones.

Shout-out to corpsmembers for executing this project through dust and pollen!

Por tercera primavera consecutiva, NRC Sonoma se ha asociado con el municipio de Windsor para apoyar a su equipo de obras públicas en la ejecución de un plan intensivo de gestión de vegetación en toda la localidad.

Los corpsmembers de trabajo han estado operando en parques locales, a lo largo de las carreteras y cerca de espacios públicos con el fin de reducir el riesgo de incendios forestales para las comunidades situadas junto a estas zonas de vegetación.

Last month, corpsmembers worked on a project in Ring Mountain, the home of a local endangered species.

A San Rafael crew worked with the Ring Mountain HOA out at Ring Mountain Open Space Preserve in Tiburon with the project mainly focusing on drain clearance and fire fuel reduction. Equipped with brush cutters and leaf blowers, the crew worked all along the edges and cut large swaths of dry grass and other dry plant material to create defensible space for the homeowners of Tiburon. The crew also helped clear drainages and V ditches which helps prevent any potential flooding in the neighborhood.

Ring Mountain Open Space Preserve is one of the most ecologically diverse places in the Bay Area and is home to the Tiburon Mariposa Lily (Calochortus tiburonensis), which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. There is also evidence of indigenous occupancy at the preserve: 30 or so boulders located throughout Ring Mountain display petroglyphs believed to have been created over 2400 years ago by the Coastal Miwok, who have called Marin County home for thousands of years.

Did you know that oyster shells can be diverted away from landfills and back to shorelines to create habitats?

Our Zero Waste department has begun a pilot program with the help of local partners:

“CCNB’s Zero Waste team is running a pilot program that establishes a weekly oyster shell recovery and redistribution route, taking waste from Hog Island Oyster Co., the largest source of shell in the region, and delivering it to the Estuary and Ocean Science Center to cure. Once cured, these shells are used in Olympia Oyster Restoration and Living Shoreline Projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, aimed to help revitalize the shores. Oyster shell reefs help with erosion and create habitats for local fauna.”

Una vez curadas, estas conchas se utilizan en proyectos de restauración de la ostra Olympia y de creación de costas vivas en toda el área de la Bahía de San Francisco, con el objetivo de revitalizar el litoral. Los arrecifes de conchas de ostra ayudan a combatir la erosión y crean hábitats para la fauna local".
