Me: “It’s kind of like when kids put pins through the outer layer of skin on their fingers.”
Dad: 👁️👄👁️
Apparently not everyone did this growing up.
I was trying to explain that a fetal scalp electrode sounds much more dramatic than it actually is.
When people hear “they screw a monitor into the baby’s head,” it’s easy to imagine something much more invasive than reality.
A fetal scalp electrode is a tiny monitor that attaches to the outer layer of baby’s scalp to provide a more accurate heart rate reading during labor when it’s needed.
Birth is full of things that sound terrifying until someone explains what they actually are.
🧷 Now I am curious: did you do this as a kid?
Or are you currently staring at this post wondering what kind of childhood the rest of us had?
