Have you ever seen a plant that looked... off? It could have been affected by a phenomenon called plant fasciation.

Plant fasciation is the deformity of plant parts due to a mutation in the plant's DNA. These fasciations can occur due to infections, damage from frost or weedwhackers, and even genetic variations.

While these plants often look strange, they don't typically have anything wrong with them—aside from their evident cosmetic malformations. Unless a plant is infected by a fungus, bacteria, or virus causing the fasciation, they remain safe to handle and use, if desired.

Wild lettuce, henbit dead nettle, and shepherd's purse spotted around my neighbourhood! I've also seen a large amount of hairy bittercress sprinkled into my yard!
