Town Fridge at 7633 MacArthur is not functioning as of 04/22/26. We found a cable cut and will work on restoring this soon! In the meantime please do not drop off any food that requires refrigeration.

Dear Community of East Oakland,

Following the closure of the FREEdom Store due to rising rent and a misalignment of values with our “landlord”, we are moving forward with a new chapter.

While it was difficult to close a space dedicated to a dignified, free shopping experience, our commitment to this mission of community care remains unchanged.

In response to our community’s needs, we are launching a free farmers market at the FREEdom Farm. We have chosen to open on April 15th—Tax Day—as a symbol of resistance and mutual support.

The redistribution of food to our Town has been a collective labor possible with the great support of orgs like AlamedaCountyCommunityFoodBank Alameda Food Bank, Planting Justice, Arizmendi Bakery, Food Shift, and the food recovery programs standing in solidarity with The Town. The FREEdom Farm will continue to grow culturally relevant produce that is often inaccessible or unaffordable elsewhere.

The FREEdom Farmers Market will be held every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Please reach out if you would like to volunteer or donate.
