A month of inspiration and gratitude, as comes to a close, we celebrate with for their debut of ‘A Fiber Journey: Textiles Farmed and Made in New York State’ for , and reflect on the inspiring journey with the fiber community in New York & especially with gratitude to , a true treasure and supporter of local wool, textiles, processes and authentic connection from farm to fiber to fashion through her own cherished heritage breed sheep and beautiful animals .
Isabella inspired all of us through her discussion at this very special event hosted at , where the takeaway was embracing and uplifting local community and processes - as Isabella beautifully said “knowing where your sweater came from is the ultimate luxury”. We couldn’t agree more. ♥️
We had the honor to create in collaboration with a very special piece using Isabella’s treasured wool from her Santa Cruz & Lincoln Longwool, both rare and endangered heritage sheep that she lovingly cares for on her farm, the most special local luxury fiber. 🐑 The wool was processed into roving by & then prepared for felting together with friends into our signature felted lace textile. We then used the felted remnants to design a patchwork of palettes with the Santa Cruz wool and locally foraged plants, embroidered into a patchwork throw. Words can’t express the joy this was to create with such meaningful process and present these very special pieces as our gratitude to Isabella for all that she does in preserving and furthering these important processes and conversations.
We also shared in this experience and the felting process with Lila + Zada, Senior Design students , inspiring each other + the next generation. ✨
Meaningful connections and reshaping the fashion ecosystem to honor all of the hands, and support every step of the process is always the foundation of our work. We cherish these moments, and can’t wait to continue to share more of what we are cultivating together in !
On the way to SUNY New Paltz for the Hudson Valley Textile Project Summit! Mimi Prober will be presenting a keynote on “Utilizing Locally Sourced and Sustainable Materials in the Fashion Industry”, discussing in detail our design process, ethos, and collaborations - we can’t wait to converse within the community on all things fiber, slow fashion, and mindful design! 🌾 The Hudson Valley Textile project is a network of farmers, mills, and artisans - founded on the same principles that underlies our own philosophy of work: implementing an environmentally conscious and mindful approach to textile creation. Extending our gratitude to Cornwall Yarn Shop, Battenkill Fibers, and all organizers and participants of the Hudson Valley Textile Project for the opportunity to converse together on this important topic! 🐑
“Fashioning America: Grit to Glamour” The first fashion exhibition at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art curated and envisioned by Michelle Finamore () who created an intricately detailed and typically untold story of America - with objects spanning over two centuries - a truly educational and beautiful feat; the labor of love is evident as this important story is shared. ♥️
Guiding you through this vision is the sculptural design, which transforms into its own brilliant interactive art, brought to life in design by the truly inspiring creative force Ruben Toledo () ✨✨✨
“Conveys uniquely American expressions of innovation, highlights the compelling stories of both designers and wearers, and amplifies the voices of those who are often left out of dominant fashion narratives.” -
“The Grit section includes an homage to American craft traditions such as Mimi Prober’s beautiful crazy quilt collection, Libertine’s schoolgirl embroidery-inspired fashion, James Galanos’ quilted caftan, and Giorgio Sant’Angelo’s patchwork dress...” - , thank you for including us in this beautiful visual narration. 🌹
♥️ Closing today at , if you missed this exhibit in Arkansas, it will be traveling to the New Orleans Museum of Art beginning this summer! 💫
We had such a wonderful time during our visits to Crystal Bridges for the Fashioning America opening and gala - bringing together community from around the world to Arkansas, in their breathtaking nature based setting, these were moments to last a lifetime!
Thank you for all of the hard work and brilliance to the entire museum team, and conservators (also new lifelong friends!) & new friends and creatives near and far (shoutout to just a few of our favorites in this video 👋 , , !), until next time! 💫
