Hopping is one of those skills that looks simple until a child has to do it.

It takes balance on one foot, enough strength to push off and land, body control, and the ability to time everything together without losing stability. It also gives us a good look at how comfortable a child feels using one side of the body at a time.

That matters because these same building blocks show up in playground skills, stairs, dressing, and everyday movement.
