CA DIDI

Day four of CA-DIDI YMA was filled with hands-on learning and industry experiences. While the younger YMA students headed to JCC's Manufacturing Technology Institute (MTI), the JMA students traveled to Eaton for a tour led by Steve Simkovic, Kyle Appleman, and Dalton Martello. Students explored 3D prototyping with Kirby Jerge and learned about products manufactured at the facility, including Cal-Fire arresters, from Kevin Maley.
At JCC's MTI, YMA students worked with instructor Xavier Smith to create personalized keychains, learn welding safety and techniques, and practice welding and quenching iron pieces. Their first-time efforts were impressive.
After lunch, Katie Kuzniar of Siemens Energy introduced the 5 Whys problem-solving method. Students then teamed up with Siemens Energy engineers Drew Brokaw, Nathaniel Cole, Abram Cook, Braden Steiner, and William Catarella to put the finishing touches on their cardboard boats- making it another great day in the books!

Day three of Eaton YMA was very exciting! In the morning, our YMA students created air rockets and launched them with Mr. Resig’s rocket launcher during lunch break on the lawn outside of the Hatch. Also in the morning, JMA students welded and finished running the CNC ball maze project with Xavier at the JCC MTI building. This project was a big hit, and the JMA students were very proud of the work that went into them.
After lunch, Mr. Phil Farris, a Product Development Scientist at SolEpoxy, talked about density and even shared a demonstration of propulsion through both air and water. Immediately following this, Mr. Farris assisted students with their boat-building activities while CA-DIDI interns worked with their groups to prepare for Friday's launch! What a great day- filled with activities, fun, and community!
