Green lawn yesterday? Brown lawn today? Your lawn may have an infestation of fall army worms.

Fall army worms can eat a lawn in a very short amount of time! If you see worms in the grass eating grass blades down to the thatch layer, check to see if there is an inverted "y" on the head of the worm. Inverted "y" = army worm.

PRO TIP: not immediately seeing damage, but seeing birds feeding in your lawn? Take a close look as sometimes lawns experience small infestations that have not manifested into a brown, dead lawn appearance.

If you have found army worms in your lawn, spray the lawn with an insecticide with the active ingredient Permethrin such as Hi-Yield's 38 Special. Follow manufacturer's label for application rates.
