I've had conversations with a few parents over the last couple months about how tough it is to break through the pressures of society that kids face today.
Pressures that are nothing like the pressures we faced when we were kids.
The single most important thing to my development was not having the constant noise of an overly self-indulgent society in my head; targeted images and algorithms trying to feed me what I already believed so I'd stay watching whatever they wanted me to see.

I was lucky, also, that the radio in our house was always on NPR. It was always playing in the background. As I matured I realized that a lot of good things had snuck in while I wasn't paying attention.

Some months ago I decided to start playing positive affirmations and positive self-talk programs whenever me and my youngest are at home and not watching/listening to something together.

That, combined with reduced phone time managed through Google Family Link and mutually (mostly) agreed to limits, have already proven to be an effective way to push back against the worst parts of society that are almost always inserting themselves into kids' lives.

This is the positive self-talk program I use. It's comprehensive in the topics and specific in its approach.
