Lately, I’ve noticed some people making comments or looking at me differently because of my spiritual practices, my altars, and the ancestral traditions I honor. What many don’t understand is that these practices weren’t something I randomly picked up—they are rooted in generations of wisdom, culture, and spirituality that have been passed down through my ancestors.
I was raised around Christianity, Baptist teachings, and Catholic traditions. I respect those paths and the people who follow them. But as I got older, I realized I needed to find my own spiritual path—one that truly helped me heal and understand myself.
For me, connecting with my ancestors, honoring my spiritual practices, and doing the inner work has helped me break cycles of generational trauma, confront painful experiences, and begin healing wounds that had been carried through my family for generations. This journey has brought me peace, self-awareness, strength, and a sense of belonging that I struggled to find elsewhere.
I respect everyone’s right to believe what they believe. I don’t judge people for attending church, praying to God, reading the Bible, practicing another religion, or having no religion at all. So it’s disappointing when people judge me because my spiritual path looks different than theirs.
My altars and spiritual practices are sacred to me. They are symbols of healing, remembrance, growth, and connection—not something that should be mocked or ridiculed.
If my beliefs make someone uncomfortable, that’s their right. But I will never apologize for choosing a path that helped me heal, grow, and become a better version of myself. I refuse to hide who I am to make others comfortable.
The people who belong in my life don’t have to share my beliefs, but they do need to respect them. The same respect I freely give to others is the respect I expect in return.
At the end of the day, we’re all just trying to find our way through life, heal from our past, and connect with something greater than ourselves. There is room for all of us to do that without judgment. 🖤✨
