Are we ready to denounce this practice in EVERY CASE that involves the unnecessary traumas caused to children and parents when crude and incompetent government authorities forcibly remove children from their homes for reasons other than imminent injury or threats of death? I certainly hope so.
The inhumane act of taking crying children from their desperate parents and even nursing newborns from the arms of their mothers, has been so thoroughly dismissed as non-important by the general public and agencies like the ACLU for so long, it’s a wonder people can see at all the incredible cruelty and harm perpetrated by child removals at the border.
Just because in one case these same government agents say “illegal migrants” vs “child protection,” doesn’t change the effect or the realities faced by children who are traumatized every day by crude parent-child separations.
This practice must be STOPPED across the board.

Join our very first Youth Editorial Board (YEB)! We especially want youth who are committed to learning about journalism and magazine publishing, as well as young people who are already engaged in various aspects of newspaper or magazine production in school.
Youth Editorial Board Members should be between the ages of 10 - 19.
To apply (or ask questions about this opportunity), send a note to [email protected] (NOT dot com) with "Youth Editorial Board" in the subject line. Then supply answers to the following (13) questions:
1. Your name
2. Your age / grade
3. Your school
4. Your contact information (email / phone number)
5. Your parent's contact information (email / phone number)
6. The reason(s) you are interested in serving on the editorial board
7. Being a YEB member requires a year commitment (2-hour educational meetings once each week and 3-hour production meetings every other Saturday morning. Occasional field trips). Are you able to commit to this schedule?
(You MUST be serious about learning, interested in contributing to creating Splash! each month, be able to work kindly and respectfully with your team, and be willing to attend the majority of scheduled editorial meetings (Youth Editorial Board members serve for "sessions." Sessions last one year. Meetings are held each week: Tuesdays from 6-8pm and every other Saturday from 9-noon. -- The Tuesday meetings are educational, and the Saturday meetings are for issue-planning and creation. Additional special meetings and events will be announced).
