Understanding Oneida Nation Contributions in Our Community

We've seen questions recently about contributions made by the Oneida Nation to organizations and projects throughout the Greater Green Bay area.

We appreciate the opportunity to provide some context and explain how these funding decisions are made.

1. What funding sources are available for community contributions?

The Oneida Nation currently has five funding sources available to support contributions and community investments:
• Tribal Contributions
• Opioid Settlement Funds
• Gaming Compact Funds (distributed through the Wisconsin Tribal Assistance Grant)
• Gaming Compact Credits
• Wisconsin State Budget Allocations
Each funding source has its own guidelines and intended use.

2. Where did the funding for Bay Beach Amusement Park and the Ted Fritsch Park Splash Pad come from?

The funding for recent improvements at Bay Beach Amusement Park and the Ted Fritsch Park Splash Pad came from Gaming Compact Funds distributed through the Wisconsin Tribal Assistance Grant.

These funds are intended to support projects that provide benefits beyond the Nation alone and are designed to strengthen communities throughout the region, including projects that positively impact Oneida citizens, families, and neighboring communities.

3. Why couldn't those funds simply be used for other Oneida projects?

The Wisconsin Tribal Assistance Grant is not intended to be used exclusively for Oneida Nation programs. The purpose of the grant is to support both tribal and regional community initiatives.

That said, the majority of the current grant funding is already benefiting Oneida programs and services.

Of the current $1 million Tribal Assistance Grant, 72% was directed to Oneida programs, including:
• Oneida Reads
• Oneida Tourism
• Oneida Nation School System programs

The remaining funds support community projects that serve the broader region, including many Oneida citizens and families who live, work, learn, and recreate throughout the Greater Green Bay area.

4. Where can I find more information?

The spending plan approved by the Oneida Business Committee is available here:

Building a Stronger Community Together

The Oneida Nation remains committed to investing in our people while also supporting partnerships that strengthen the region we all call home.

Through responsible stewardship of these funding sources, we continue working to create lasting benefits for Oneida families and neighboring communities alike.

A good mind, a good heart, a strong fire. 🔥
