When I agreed to foster Trudy, I knew very little about her life before being rescued.

I knew she had been found in Mexico—alone, fearful, and severely malnourished. Beyond that, there wasn't much information available.

But when I saw a video of her at the shelter, something deep within me just knew she was meant to be here with the 4Paws Rescued Me pack. ❤️🐾✨

It's been one week with Trudy, and she is still one of the most timid and fearful dogs we've ever fostered.

Wanting to better understand her, I did a pet communication reading.

During our conversation, Trudy told me what life felt like before rescue.

She described herself as a little elf, hiding from tree to tree and hole to hole in a magical forest filled with big, scary creatures.

Always watching. Always hiding. Always trying to survive.

She told me she never knew where her next meal would come from, or whether she would become another creature's meal first.

She was scared. She was alone. And she had no pack to protect her.

Now all of Trudy's behaviors make sense to me and I have a better understanding of how to support her and that makes a world of difference!

Our animals have stories. They have feelings. They have experiences that shape who they are.

Sometimes they just need someone willing to listen and help share their voice.

And Trudy's journey isn't about fixing her.

It's about helping her feel safe enough to move beyond survival mode.

To trust.

To play.

To discover who she truly is.

To simply be a dog.
