Tonight’s Lip Balm Making Workshop at Buffalo Rock Brewing Company-Bayside was such a fun night! It was great seeing everyone create their own custom lip balms, experiment with flavors, and leave with something they made themselves.

Did you know honey is more than just a sweetener? 🍯🐝

Many people think of honey as simply a sugar, but raw honey is also a naturally antimicrobial substance. Research has shown that honey can help reduce certain bacteria associated with plaque, gum disease, and tooth decay.

While honey isn’t a substitute for good oral hygiene, scientists continue to study its unique properties and potential benefits for oral health. Honey contains natural compounds that can inhibit the growth of some harmful bacteria, making it much more complex than ordinary table sugar.

As a beekeeper, I’ve found the science behind honey fascinating. In my own experience, after years of dealing with cavities despite good oral hygiene, I haven’t had a single cavity since becoming a beekeeper and using honey regularly. That’s my personal experience—not a medical claim—but it certainly made me curious enough to learn more about the research.

Nature has been creating this remarkable substance for millions of years, and we’re still discovering all the ways it may support our health.

Busy morning doing some of my favorite things.

First, a little beekeeping with my 20 hives, then off to forage for garlic scapes, elderberry flowers, mullein leaves, and mulberries.

Already made garlic scape pesto earlier this week, and today…garlic scape compound butter. The elderberry flowers and mullein leaves will be dried for tea.

Not a bad way to spend a June morning.
